Smart Electrical Design: To Wire or Not to Wire?

Today, let's talk about making some fundamental choices [U1] that can change your electrical projects for the better. You want to minimize your costs and maximize your results. There are particular ways to do that, and that's where we come in. We provide good consulting and repair or renovation services around the local area.

Today, we're going to talk about one of the big questions when designing any type of exterior electrical project.

Should you continue to run wire to an electrical setup, or go with a new solar energy solution?

Here are some of the vital considerations that we talk about with clients…

Eliminate Unnecessary Lines

If you've looked at a number of old houses, you've probably seen this scenario before.

Somebody wanted a light bulb out of the perimeter of a property, or yards away from the main building, and so they tunneled through concrete, earth and other materials in order to install a line that ran out to this exterior outlet. These lines are vulnerable to all sorts of problems. Water can infiltrate their housing, animals can chew into them…

Still, people liked to run electric lines everywhere. That was in the days before you can easily pop in a solar-powered bulb and get the energy sourcing you need with new battery technologies that can hold that current for specific distribution.

Now, this part is important – think about the cost of the wire, which can run into hundreds of dollars. Think about the trenching that you may need to do, and the time it will take to do it.

Now, think about taking a five-dollar kit and installing it somewhere, and being done. You start to see how this works. There are all sorts of benefits to being able to “un-grid” little lights and even other bigger items, and they are not vulnerable to animals and other problems with traditional sunk lines.

Dynamic Power Applications

When can this easy solar fix not be the best solution?

Basically, when you need more than a little juice at any one given time.

Solar is great for small applications, but when it comes to those larger draws, like primary home systems, it doesn't always fit the bill.

We've seen this more times than we can count – somebody gets solar crazy and tries to run everything off of some panels.

The best utility of grid-connected machines and appliances is when dynamic or large draws make this the best implementation for a project.

That's it, really- these two excellent ideas can help you to plan accordingly. Talk to PV Electrical to fine-tune your plan for your property.
